Paris Agreement 1 Trump 0 -

The Paris Agreement which President Trump has set about reversing our involvement in, as well as anything anti-Climate Change is not having as great an effect on those who already trust the science. The 2015 Paris Agreement, which was reached by almost 200 nations, has set a goal of phasing out greenhouse gas emissions in the second half of this century. Those who have signed are committed to its goals most having reaffirmed backing the Agreement just this past week.

It seems quite odd that someone who considers himself a businessman would say that Climate Change doesn’t exist. Actually, I’m sorry, would say it was a ‘hoax’. AND if you take into considerations the far-reaching effects everything from borders, to the resulting refugees, worldwide famine, and more - things which must be considered or prepared for, it is not in the best interest of the country to discredit Climate Change.

It is a matter of one can’t cherry-pick science. Choose to accept things that have an immediate effect on your life but things that are either invisible, like germs and virus’ or Climate Change. Wait, back up, isn’t Trump a germaphobe? Actually I don’t believe he is, his shaking of hands for so long says he isn’t. Germ-aware perhaps? [Which would seem to indicate he understands something about the invisible germs that he is encountering.]

Patricia Espinosa, head of the U.N. Climate Change Secretariat in Bonn has touted the Worldwide Momentum that the Paris Agreement has garnered in bringing people together to fight Climate Change. A major area of this would be the fact that solar power capacity grew in a global capacity by around 50% (in 2016). She stated that this momentum has been encouraged by everything from investors to the companies, cities to regions and territories. Look at Exxon – a major global company, and they state (taken from their website): the risk of climate change is clear and the risk warrants action. Increasing carbon emissions in the atmosphere are having a warming effect. There is a broad scientific and policy consensus that action must be taken to further quantify and assess the risks.

All of this is very good news – that despite President Trump & the GOP ‘beliefs’, World-Wide the fight persists.

An interesting parting comment. Putin, unlike Trump does believe in Climate Change however with an interesting twist;

"Climate change brings in more favorable conditions and improves the economic potential of this region," Putin said.

This was exclaimed as he announced the GDP had risen by 10%.

What is the point of all this? We March: from the housewife in Tucson to the Space-aficionado in Houston and the Scientist in New England. The lab workers and the Doctors…We all need to march and fight this ridiculous view of Science as something a non-science person can just dismiss. Science is not an option, it’s not like religion, it’s not up to you, it just is. It govern the Universe, and I kinda like the Universe!

March for Science….

Caroline Weinberg (Public Health Educator & Science Writer) tweeted last month; “Hell hath no fury like a scientist silenced.”

Final word – these marches are worldwide. From Japan to France to Poland, Australia and Mexico. BUT don’t count on everybody else to speak up, speak with them. March!!!
